Summer Update: Announcing New LLM Programs

During these warm months, it seems apt that LL.M. program offerings are also heating up.  There are a number of new programs being announced which should further sizzle the exciting LL.M. possibilities on offer.

First up, is Oxford’s new MSc in Taxation.  This is a two-year part-time program covering issues on national, European, international and comparative taxation, and tax policy. The program will begin in 2016. The MSc in Taxation will be directed both by the Faculty of Law and by the Centre for Business Taxation and is designed for practitioners, those working in revenue authorities, and those interested in a tax-focused academic career.  Teaching will be delivered in three one-week residential periods as well as other short sessions, mainly on weekends.

Next, Emory is introducing a new LL.M. program specializing in law and development.  This program, run by the law school and in collaboration with the Law and Development Institute, is targeted at those individuals interested in development issues, particularly economic development.  Students in this program must complete the foundational course, Law and Economic Development: Theory and Practice.  In addition, they must complete at least one of the following courses: Development Economics, International Trade Law and Policy, Law and Development: Social and Political Perspectives, and/or Political Economy of Development Practice.  Students also have the opportunity to complete a substantial research paper.

Third, SUNY Buffalo Law School is about to offer a new LL.M. program specializing in Cross-Border Legal Studies, which is anticipated to begin in Fall 2016.  The program dovetails with the work of the Cross-Border Legal Studies Center and allows students to become more familiar with cross-border issues relating to trade, immigration, tax, environmental, and transactional matters.  The one-year intensive program contains an experiential learning component in which students are partnered with practicing attorneys to work on cross-border related issues.

Finally, for all those fashionable law students and lawyers out there, Fordham has just announced the beginning of a new LL.M. program in Fashion Law.  Consisting of a curriculum devoted to intellectual property law, business and finance, international trade, and consumer culture and rights, the program also boasts direct links to the Fashion Law Institute.

So there you have it, whether its fashion or tax that drives your fancy or whether development or cross-border issues pique your interests, the new range of LL.M. offerings promise to offer something that heats up your life.
